Terri reports on internet connection and computers/software 2. David G and Richard summarize Communiweb changes/status 3. Together we discuss further additions and needed modifications 4. We make initial plans for the content, etc. for the Mar 9th presentation. MINUTES OF MEETING A. DECISIONS MADE - 1. KEEP THE DSL INTERNET SERVICE, but investigate the new wireless option. 2. NEXT MEETING - Monday Feb 3, 2003 5 pm in Jack Good Library 3. WEB-SITE PRESENTATION - go ahead with plans for Sunday March 9 during Adult Sunday School at 9 am and during coffee hour after church in the parlor (see below) B. REPORTS AND DISCUSSION 1. Internet connection, computers, etc. Terri reported that we have a new (G4 Tower?) computer in the main office and the old one has been moved to the Campus Ministry office. The DSL 1-year contract is in operation; the computers will be connected to it next week. We may cancel the service within 30 days with no penalty. After some discussion, we decided that Ryan will contact the new wireless company and find out the details of their offer of a "free" year's worth of service for churches who install a "repeater" on their church buildings. After he reports back, and possibly after some discussion within the church as to whether this is a proper thing to do, we might go ahead and add the wireless internet. 2. Unifying Graphics for cucc web pages Richard presented us with ~4 alternatives for the next version of the graphics for the home and other web pages. We learned that the pdf version he sent did not reproduce well on our various devices - colors were incorrect and the shading non-existent. We were unanimous in our first choice among the graphics and suggested only minor modifications which Richard will include and get to David G. We like the new names on the menu labels. One of the changes is to reduce the menu font (~75%) so that the labels won't take up quite as much horizontal space. When the mouse moves over the different menu labels, they will light up in one of the colors of the rainbow as David G. had on his Dec 15th version in "drafts". 3. Progress on web pages Ryan has some more photos he'll get to David G. sometime and plans to take more in/about the church. Terri is still making modifications to which subitems go under the main ones. David M. has everything gathered but has been too busy to put it together for the Music Past Presentations writeup. 4. PLANS FOR MARCH 9th COMMUNIWEB PRESENTATION TO CONGREGATION We had a lively discussion and decided we could go with March 9th as the date of our presentation. We talked about the possibility of a children's sermon and even "Adopt a Sunday". (As best I remember) we decided on the following: a. Advertising - The Communiweb presentation on March 9th will be announced in the Communigram and Sunday Bulletin the week before. The Sunday before, Lanie will make a "Ken and Ruth Gilbert-style" fun announcement during the church service on March 2. b. Equipment - Between them, David G., Tom, and Saju, will come up with an appropriate large monitor screen and/or projecting system to use during the Adult Sunday School at 9 am and after church in the parlor ~11:30 am. A laptop will suffice for any children's moment during the main service. c. Church Sunday School worship service - ~9 am Terri will introduce and describe the Communiweb to the children during their worship service. One idea is for them to "adopt" the Youth Activities and create their own webpage to describe their past and upcoming activities. d. Adult Sunday School ~ 9 am (Conference room probably) This audience will be a combination of those who have never used the internet and those who use it daily! We will try to encourage chairs of the various church committees (or a rep) to attend. We will introduce the concept of the internet and web pages, show our home page (possibly live connection), explain how it can be useful to people looking for a church home and those already here... and our plans plus our hope that they will "adopt" a page for their particular committee, group. e. Church Service - 10:15 am - 11:15 am Terri will coordinate this with perhaps an "adopt a service" topic of "outreach to new members" and "why I joined CUCC" This might include Terri (or someone else) doing the Children's sermon - using the laptop to show them the site, asking questions that would lead to the church website being a useful tool for them (and for adults) and then saying the rest of the congregation can see what the children are seeing by going into the parlor for coffee where we'll have a monitor set up. If appropriate, we may be able to contribute to some aspect of "outreach to new members" by indicating how new families to the community may be looking for a church and find us on the web.... etc. f. Demo in Parlor We would set up the same equipment that we had for the Adult Ed Class - this might be a reason to have that class held in the parlor instead of in the conference room?? A couple of us would be nearby to help people with trying an interactive session on our website - and possibly another computer which has some static images that we can show others. We'll need at least one or more of the "tech" members present. C. PROPOSED AGENDA FOR NEXT MEETING (Feb 3 Monday at 5 pm) 1. Ryan report on the wireless option 2. David G and Richard summarize Communiweb changes/status 3. Terri reports on updates re menu subitems; David M. re Past Music Events; Ryan on any new photos (on the web) 4. MAIN TASK - WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT ON MARCH 9 i.e. Make concrete plans for the Communiweb presentation to Congregation 5. Set date for next Communiweb meeting
