Religious Education
Religious Education at Community United ChurchOverview We offer a complete program of Christian Education which includes skilled childcare for our youngest ones, opportunities for faith development for our children and youth, and safe spaces for all. Church School meets from 9:00 – 10:00 am on Sundays from September – June. A staffed Nursery is available for children birth through age 2, and a Preschool class is available for our 3 and 4 year old children. Children entering Kindergarten through Fifth grade participate in our Workshop Rotation Model. 6th-8th graders will be invited to their own class. Currently, this class is exploring "Just Eating." Nursery CareOur paid Nursery staffperson is happy to provide a safe and welcoming place for infant and toddlers to play or nap during our Religious Education Hour (9:00 – 10:00 am).
During the Worship Service children through age four are welcomed in the Nursery. These young ones can play, paint, create and have a snack. Being conscious of allergies, we offer graham crackers and water for snack time. Big Kid's RoomFollowing the Children's Time, children in Kindergarten and First Grade retreat to the Fellowship Hall for a time of centering and meditating through Yoga. Join us in the TentPreschool through 5th grade students gather in the tent for our opening time together. Jeanne Ward leads us in song and we hear the story for the day.
The preschool children are then led to their classroom. The level 1,2 and 3 students hear about their Rotation for the day, and their shepherds lead them to their rooms. 2007/2008 RotationsFamily Ties, (Sep. 16-30) These ancient characters and events still seem remarkably current. Their stories speak of who we are as a people of God. Their story and ours is about struggle, joy, deceit, faithfulness, and love that we experience in families – our own families and God's.
God Calls Abraham and Sarah (Oct. 7- Nov. 25) Hear God's challenging call to Abraham and Sarah and explore what it means to act in faith and wait in trust.
Jesus is Born (Dec. 2-Jan. 20) Dreams, angels and mysterious travelers speak God's word of hope into an uncertain world.
Meals of Blessing (Jan. 27-Mar 23) As we share the Passover meal with Jesus and his friends, we join in an ancient tradition and experience a new meal of fellowship
Pentecost: Wind and Fire (Mar 30 – May 11) Feel the breath of the Spirit as you experience the sweeping changes brought to the new church through the wind and flame that is Pentecost.
