Biblical Self-Defense for LGBTQ People

Been burned by the church?  Tired of people using the Bible as a weapon against you?  Then learn some Biblical Self Defense!   Rev. Leah Robberts-Mosser, pastor of Community UCC, Champaign will lead you through the real meaning behind those verses people wield against gay folks.  You'll be armed with Biblical proof that, in fact, GOD LOVES YOU and MADE YOU IN GOD'S OWN IMAGE.   Don't miss this life-changing workshop.  Join us @CU Pride Fest, Lincoln Square Mall, Friday, August 20th.  Workshop time:  6:00 p.m.

Pride Fest Celebration Worship

At Community UCC, you'll find gay people and straight allies, singles and families, retired folks and University students, professors and hair dressers, people who walk and people who wheel.  You'll find a whole church of people excited about CU's first Pride!   We've been an LGBTQ Open and Affirming Congregation of the United Church of Christ since 1990.  You are invited to celebrate CU Pride with our Community of faith in worship the Sunday following Pride Fest.   Want to check us out before you step through the doors?   Give us a call (344-5091) or see our website:   www.community-ucc.org.   Join us @Community UCC,  805 S. 6th Street, Champaign.   Sunday, August 22 - Workship time:  10:15 a.m.

We’re “Reading the Bible Again for the First Time” All Summer Long!

Our summer sermon series explores a fantastic book by Marcus Borg, “Reading the Bible Again for the First Time: Taking the Bible Seriously not Literally.” As Progressive Christians, at best we struggle with our relationship to scripture. At worst, we ignore it entirely. We’ve allowed the Bible to be co-opted by other Christians who want to use it as a weapon. Since we’re not interested in doing that, but don’t know how to respond when people start wielding it, we tend to shrink back for those situations. But, you know what – it’s my Bible too! Let’s not let our book be hijacked anymore.

Welcome to Community United Church of Christ, a community of faith in Champaign, Illinois. We are a just peace church. We are a church open and affirming to the LGBT community. We are a progressive church. Much like our denomination, our church resulted from mergers which combined the long-established mainline Congregational-Christian and Evangelical-Reformed churches. We are affiliated with The Center for Progressive Christianity. No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.
