Community Involvement

We build tables of community and break down walls of injustice.

We strive to be an integral part of our campus and our local community. To achieve this in the spirit of our motto (see above), we involve ourselves in a number of activities: supporting a local food pantry, creating relationships with community organizations like the Times Center, and helping fund a Martin Luther King, Jr. scholarship. These activities are in addition to housing the United Church Foundation - the U.C.C. campus ministry of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Prairieland Community Supported Agriculture  :

Community UCC purchases two shares so that the church's food pantry can now supply fruits and vegetables in addition to the customary canned and dry goods to area social service agencies. Learn how we became involved and how you as an individual can also buy shares.

Meals on Wheels  :

Right now, we are short on drivers -- to deliver meals to shut-ins (3 times a year). Can you help?

Times Center  :

Help the homeless at the Times Center by making a bucket of soup or helping out in other ways.

MLKJr Advocacy for Justice Committee  :

At the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration on January 18, 2004, the MLK,Jr., Advocacy for Justice Committee gave a plaque to the church in recognition of Herb Stevens, a recently deceased member of CUCC and a strong proponent of racial justice. Community UCC continues to be a strong supporter of the MLK Community Celebration.
